I think it is great that there are divers here that want to just jump in a pool and practice. If someone arrived at my dive shop with logged pool dives, I would see it as valuable practice time and congratulate them for their attitude. Whether the purists call it a dive is a matter of semantics. I think if you are U/W blowing bubbles you are diving.

Do they count towards the higher ratings that have a minimum number of dives, 'fraid not according to most agencies, nor do aquarium dives etc.

Patch:
Sounds pretty silly to you experts, but we can practice bouyancy, regulator stuff, buddy breathing, and most of the basics.
This is not silly at all. I typically use "cleaning the pool" as an excuse to burn the last 500 psi in my tanks... while "cleaning" I work on super fine-tuning buoyancy. Been working on buoyancy control for over 30 years - don't expect to stop any time soon.
Rick :)

The only time i logged a pool dive was when i was in a 6metre depth pool- it was awesome!! Very strange though!!! But extremely cool!

I log dives in pit pools (more than 20ft, the one we usually go is 50 ft at deeper). When our course director requires a minimum number of dives (between P* and P** for example) he count them as "half shallow dives"

My log only hears about 20' or more for at least 10 minutes.
But I love to throw my gear on and sit near the bottom of the pool and watch OW classes. Water is water, and it keeps my gills from drying out for too long. :D

You can log it but I couldn't count it towards dive totals. SSI says 15 feet for 15 minutes to count as a dive. But writing info in your log book can only help you.

Go for it.
