Hello Everyone,

Currently I have a Canon Powershot SD850 IS with a Canon WP-DC15 case. It takes surprisingly good pictures for a 8mp camera, and it's been incredibly reliable. I dive about 15-20 dives a year, primarily in the USVI. I've been thinking about upgrading to a new camera and case, but I don't really know where to start. I want something with a higher shutter speed (it's hard to track faster moving animals, and I'd like to be able to take multiple shots without the focus time) and obviously higher megapixels.

Is it worth simply buying something like a ELPH 150? Can I reuse the same case? It doesn't have a connection for an external flash, which obviously is nice after anything deeper than about 50 feet.

Or should I be looking at something like a G7X with a housing? This obviously is a more expensive decision. Does either model have an underwater filter? Do I need accessories?

Help!

Yes definitely get the Canon G7X. Currently it is (IMHO) the best compact for underwater. Camera bodies are not that expensive relative to housings and strobes, so it always good to start with the best camera body available. When budget allows, you will want to get a strobe or two. In order to use fast shutter speeds, you will need some artificial light source, and strobes are best for stills.
