I am a little "cheezed" about certain individuals on this board who are regularly negative / brutal / unhelpful to brand new divers and or kids.

It seems to be the same individuals, always posting on-off horrible situations, or irrelevant negativities about learning to dive, how bad new divers are, etc. etc.

This type of response is totally unnecessary, and certainly does not illicit new divers to feel good about their accomplishments, or to ask more questions. And it definately does nothing for this board.

There's a difference between cautioning someone, and bringing up horror stories. And if you know you're posting to a child, don't squash their post. If you're scared of diving that much, don't dive, and if you need to vent, pick on someone your own size.

Lets try and make our responses somewhat appropriate to the individual.

I think it is important for us to check peoples profiles sometimes before we wade right in!

Opiniongirl, it is very easy to post criticism on an internet discussion board...just remember that 99% of the people who do it would not even come close to saying anything to your face.

No pornography, violence or swearing on here. Same rating isn't needed. So, you would suggest an age limit on users. No one under 13 can post?

This, too, has been discussed. I find some language and opinions on this board too virulent and will not let my 14 year-old read it.

I was not warned that children might be on our dive site. Maybe we should warn all newbies that this site is rated "G".
