I recently purchased a Poseidon sport harness that comes with a plastic back plate.

this a picture of a advanced which has the same plastic backplate.
Poseidon Besea Advanced Harness from LeisurePro.com

here is a picture of the metal backplate sold by Poseidon that is an entirely different shape.
Poseidon Back Plate BeSea 3mm SS from LeisurePro.com

i have scene the plastic backplate in person and it looks entirely different from the metal Poseidon one. some websites say it is compatible while others do not......i was contemplating having one made to the specifications of the plastic one. any advice or ideas would help.

Wow! Is the list price on the Poseiden steel backplate REALLY $295???!!!

I don't even want to think what it would cost to custom machine a single steel backplate to the pattern of your plastic one. Why would you want to do this? Is something wrong with the plastic one?

The plastic stays, the wing bolts to the SS backplate using existing hardware, and the backplate is secured to the harness with a pinbolt kit. If you need help, PM me with your telephone # and I will try to talk you through it.
Good Luck,
Craig

I want the weight of it......I am using an oxycheq extreme wing......and every site i check is selling the back plate for around 220.00.

This is helpful and exactly what I was thinking......could use a little more input though if anyone has any info on which pin bolt kit to buy?

Thanks again

hi mate

i use a Poseidon Advance rig with metal plate permanently mounted on the harness. the plate is the same profile as the harness so it sits snug against the harness. I've lined the holes on the plate to the holes in the harness and secured the plate there with several "sex screws" -

I use the slots on the metal plate to feed the cam straps through.

see the attached pics

i've also modified my plastic plate and cut it at the point where the harness is correctly adjusted for me. It basically means that i cant readjust the backlength for anyone else if they're a different height to me.

the attached pics show the setup attached to twin 10L steels but i've got another rig which is setup the same way (but with Cam strap) for single tank diving.

the plate weighs 8pounds so it takes a fair bit of weight out of the hip pockets. I found it a little heavy for travelling to i've had another plate (same profile as the original Poseidon plate) made from Aluminium by a local engineering and metal fabrication business.

Let me know if you want more detailed pics and good luck with your setup -

cheers

Jeelan
