Hi,
Is there any reason why the standard flat port #5502.41 cannot be used for the new AF-S DX Micro Nikkor 40mm/2.8G, apart from the fact that it will probably not be possible to get quite as close to the subject as the lens itself permits?

Based on the Nikon specs, the lens is 2.5" long, however this is not the "fully extended" lens length. It would be best to hand check the "fully extended" lens length from the lens bayonet mount. If it is less than 4.1", then the #5502.41 port should accommodate your lens.
