Hello fellow divers,

I am planning a 5-day trip to Port Douglas and am thinking of doing some day dives while I'm there. I am an advanced diver and hope to seek quality dives and sites rather than quality of the boats. I have heard Poseidon and Quicksilver are two of the companies offering day dives off Port Douglas. Does anyone know any good operators there which focus more on divers and dive sites rather than "numbers"? ;)

You might try an enquiry with Calypso Dive. I have heard they may have a new boat which is catering more for locals and experienced divers. Tech Dive Academy is also a good recommendation. I have used both of the companies you have mentioned and will not consider using either again, for no other reason than they cater for the majority of the boat. Snorkers and Intro dives. Three dives for $260 with permit paid it was not value to an experienced diver.
The company would not allow myself and my DM buddy to dive separate to a DM lead group.
Which I did understand to an extent, but after returning from the second dive we were both left scratching our head as to why.

Suggest you also look at diving from Cape Tribulation it about an hours drive from PD.

Quicksilver are a really good choice, have been diving with them when I am in Cairns since I was 12.
