Recently I had my Royal Aquamaster two hose regulator serviced by Bryan Pennington. I shipped it in a heavy large cardboard box, packed with a lot of plastic peanuts. When I shook the box the regulator did not move proving it was securly packed. Since it was so well packed I did not insure it. When I received the regulator after it was serviced the box it came in was a small priority mail box, loosely packed with peanuts. The regulator was completly destroyed! It looked like a ten pound sledge hammer bashed it! The Yoke was bent like a pretzel and both covers were severly dented and useless. When I spoke to Bryan via E-Mail he told me to work it out with the USPS. He wanted nothing to do with this situation. I know he received it in good condition as for some reason the CD that comes with each rebuilt regulator was in good condition and it showed the regulator being rebuilt. Somehow either the regulator fell out of the box before being damaged or the CD fell out. The box was also smashed. I thought l as a good business man the least he could do is return the $60.00 I spent to have the regulator rebuilt. He totally refused. Now I am out a perfectly good regulator worth $300.00 to $500.00 and the money spent for servicing. I also deal with the general public and if he was a good business person he would at least help me in some way. This would encourage future business transactions. It probably was the USPS fault for damaging the unit so badly but Bryan could have used a little common sense and insured the package, which he did not and pack it in a larger box very carefully. He did insist that this is the way he ships them all over the county but there is always a first time for a disaster to take place. Its a shame this has happened but I do not see doing any further business with Bryan under the curent circumstances.

We found out from a similar experience that if a package of any value is being sent USPS it MUST be insured. Did the business offer insurance or the option of sending via UPS? If you did not take it it is your fault. If they don't offer the option of insurance then I would not deal with them. With out insurance the USPS will do nothing.

If it costs more than $100 I get it insured. I personally trust my LDS to service my regs and do not need to ship them, but if I did I would expect them to ship insured. But since you did not work this out before hand, there is nothing you can do.

Next time I would request an email saying he will insure the package.

Wow, Im sorry that happened to you. I think the value of the customer always being right is too quickly lost now a days with greed business owners. Good luck!

Ouch! From the description of the damage, it sounds like no amount of packaging would've saved the poor critter.
I've received boxes from overseas that have been split open with the innards dangling, the delivery guy parked a couple doors down & sneaked between the bushes to drop it off, propping it against the door so he could make a clean getaway.
The dogs earned their kibbles that day. ;)
For the USPS, the recipient has to do all the paperwork, with FedEx the sender.
I don't use UPS 'cuz it's a nightmare getting them to pay & they bash the crap out of things the worst. :11:
The USPS are the quickest to shell out the $$, with least B.S., providing the poor thing was insured to begin with.
Condolences & hope ya have a pain free outcome.

Bryan has serviced many, many, many regs for us and we have never had any problems with the packaging nor with Bryan. Do you have a picture of the damaged reg?

If I cannot afford to replace it, I insure the heck out of it. The post office pays off.

I shipped the regulator back to the customer in the same USPS prioirty mail box that I ship all regulators in. I ship on the average 15-20 regulators per month and this is the 1st I have ever heard of USPS damaging one.
The customer did not request insurance on the package when it was returned so I did not insure it. Had it been requested I would have done so. I do not feel responsible for the destruction of the package.

Send the destroyed regulator to me. I am sure I can use it for parts and I'll send you $60.00 by USPS priority mail.......with insurance......

I am morbidly curious how a CAST yoke can be bent like a pretzel.....I will post the photos after I recieve the regulator.

I would be upset as well but here is the thing. We are a very small group of people. We all either know one another or soon will. Yeah, it is a loss but with all the bad things that happen today this is a "no brainer" to me just to say that bad things sometimes happen no matter what and shrug it off. It is really not worth a huge blowup. Lessons have been learned, next time I ship a unit to Bryan, and I will ship to him again I will request the insurance.
I hope you guys work this out in a friendly manner. Bryan may be able to repair it for you perhaps. He has serviced many of our regulators with excellent results, I am sorry you had this problem.
There are only about three guys servicing these things. the great Gomez - er- Chuck Tenge, Dan of Vintage Scuba and of course Bryan. I have met Bryan and Chuck and I have done buisness several times with Dan. All are quality, honest people. I am fully capable of servicing regulators, I however have not gone to the effort to collect the parts, make new parts etc that these fellows have. I urge people to continue to use their services or learn to do the service yourself. These are the choices we have ! Peace.
