Here in West Australia a few people have started buying and wearing Polartec suits under their wet suits and semi-dry's!

These things ae not cheap..360 AUD but (according to the label )they are equivalent to a 2.5 mm wetsuit in warmth.. and are nuetrally bouyant.

You can wear them under another suit in cold water, or on their own in warm water.

Has anyone on the board used one of these??

Or its' equivalent? Polartec next to your skin, then a windproof layer, then lycra on the outside? I did buy one recently on E-bay. I have used it once under a Henderson Hyperstretch suit - and the jury is still out on performance. It was definitely warmer on the first dive, but I'm not sure about subsequent dives. I'd like to give it a try by itself in really warm water, though...I have seen other people here rave about them, though.

I don't know aobut under a wetsuit. LIke the flieece lined skins, They're great if you're dry, but onc they get wet, forgit it. All I've been able to see is that they create more of a gap between you adn the suit increasing the area for water circulation, making me colder, plus they weigh a ton when they're wet and you're on the beach/boat. Now under a dry suit, that's a whole different story, I swear by them-because they stay dry. I have never been cold in my jammies and drysuit. Plus they're nice and soft, much better than wool or sweatsuits.

Here is a section of undie info text I pass around:
:
Camping supply & Ski shops sometimes have good stuff for undies. REI is one, Fleet Farm (Farm & Fleet) is another.
Military surplus stores too.
For a good base layer, thin polypro 1-piece union suits can't be beat:

If you're using 2-piece, get the TALL size for the top so there'll be plenty of material to tuck in to the bottoms.

Check here for the Arctic weight polypros:
