As a Christmas gift I received a Polar Pro Switchblade 8, with 5x magnification lens. I've never used a macro lens before and know very little about it. It did not come with any instructions. The articles I've found online assume much more knowledge of photography than I have. So I have some naive questions. How close should I get to a subject to use the macro lens? Can I use it for video? Anything else that a newby needs to know without diving into much technical discussion?

Hi,

Min. focusing distance of GoPro is 30 cm (12 inches).
If you want to shoot objects that are closer, you have to use macro lens.
With Switchblade you will get best results at 10 - 15 cm (4 - 6 inches).
There is a good video on Youtube.
