I have a reservation to dive at Point Lobos Marine Reserve in a few weeks-It will be my first cold-water dive in No Cal(have been a warm water weenie in Coz,Roatan and Tahiti) have about 35 -40 dives includeing cert dive in Lake Mead.
Has anybody dove this site..? would like to hear some advise, recomendations etc , any help or info would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks-Drew

I dove it five or six years ago, best diving ever. This is as close to boat diving, without the boat, that you will ever do.

The place you park is right next to the water in the cove, you suit up and walk down the ramp into the water. Before you know it you are in 30+ ft of water (it gets deeper, and deeper, and deeper as you go towards the mouth, so watch your gauges)

Since it is a reserve, it is jam packed with wildlife (no to mention the sea lions) Do yourself a favor and move slowly or you will miss a lot. Make sure to bring a light along so you can look in the nooks and crannies because there are things hiding in there too.

My reservation is not until July 5...

I suppose you already have a buddy, right? :(

My understanding is that everyone must dive in pairs.

Thanks for the info-Great site!
As it stands now we have 4 divers.. but if someone bails, I will post an offer for the empty spot.

Yes it is mandatory that you have a dive buddy.

I wasn't asking that...heh...I was hinting (obviously not very well) that I'm available to solve the problem if he didn't have a buddy... :)

where is this spot? I'm going to be in the san fran area in aug. for business. I was hoping to go early or stay late and do a few dives but don't really know the area or the dive spots. is this point lobos near san fran or a reasonable drive away?

Go to Yahoo maps and put in Monterey, CA and look towards the south end of the big curving monterey bay area...Just North of Carmel.

If you actually want to dive Pt. Lobos, you can reserve up to two months ahead of time, and you MUST have a reservation and dive with a buddy or they won't let you dive.
