We have just spent three fantastic days diving in Pohnpei on the way back to Oz after some truly awesome diving with the Blue Lagoon Dive Shop in Chuuk, thanks to Sam, Stenson and Joe ( more to follow).
Our travel agent had booked us in to dive with the Pohnpei Surf Club, but on arrival we discovered they had reportedly gone to Hawaii. They had arranged for us to dive with Club Pareo instead.
We cannot say enough good things about the whole experience, it was freaking awesome. The staff at Club Pareo ( thanks, Jerry, Justin, KK, Stamp and Eida) were fantastic, at least two of the guides had 25 plus years experience on the island.
Our luck was in, as on two days we had the boat to ourselves and could , more or less choose the sites we wanted to dive. We opted for three dives at Manta Road and two dives at Shark Point wth the Juvenile Grey Reef Sarks, my apologies if I have the site names wrong.
On the last Manta Dive we had Mantas hovering within two meters of us for more than five minutes. The experience was amazing.
My partner wants to know how many other people have had an up close and personal experience with a Manta by swimming into a brown cloud of organic matter trailing behind a Manta. It certainly attracted the fish.
The guide and myself swam to one side
