Hello,
I was gifted my first reg set. A pretty new looking poseidon cyklon. The 1st stage says cyklon 3950 and I belive my main reg is what comes with it. However, the alternate that was on it was a poseidon Jetstream. After a little research on this forum I found out that a Jetstream cannot be paired with a cyklon due to the operating pressure being higher then average 2nd stages. I gave it back to the person who gifted it to me, they took it to where they got it, and brought it back to me again, now it appears to have another cyklon on it as I requested. However it looks pretty old and beat up. I was wondering if anyone could identify the model of cyklon and ease my mind that it will work.

On a separate note, is it OK to dive Nitrox on this set-up?

Thanks alot,
Jeff

nitrox is fine, you have one metal body cyklon and one plastic body. if both have been serviced and tested, would not worry about diving them. the metal cyklon is still offered as an option.

What runsongas said . . . there have been no changed in the Cyklon 2nd for the life of the regulator - they just released a plastic bodied variant. The "3950" refers more to the second stage, which has evolved over the lifespan of the Cyklon, but they are all cross compatible - just have your tech service it as a set and you will be fine.

The 3950 is just the latest of those first stages, which trace back some four or more decades; and Poseidon is also offering the Cyklon with an XStream first stage.

That said, I would have all of the second stage diaphragms -- inhalation and exhalation -- replaced (should that prove necessary) and a full rebuild / service of the first. For some reason, those soft, second stage components don't seem to age as well as they once did; and I've replaced more of them in the last five years or so -- due to degradation and wear and tear -- than I can ever recall.

Poseidon also offers service kits, for use with nitrox; so, you're good to go . . .

3950 is the first stage not the second
