The Palace Resorts are really nice. I just can't imagine them being able to make PLG nice enough to be in the league with the other Palace Resorts. The renovations must be closer to demolition than decorating.

I've been watching this thread as we are headed there in June '05. Coz that is. Not PLG or Cozumel Palace. I was just quoted $1389 pp AI hotel only, no air, no diving, for the week of June 18 - 25.

We were in Cozumel 2 weeks ago and drove by it in a taxi - twice. Based on what I saw from the cab, I wouldn't be making any reservations soon. It was completely gutted out and the remaining structure was just a concrete shell. There were debris piles still to be removed. Even if they brought Haliburton in, I doubt the project will be completed anytime soon. (opinion only).

I concur.

I went by it several times in the last 2 weeks, and it looks like the guy with the screw driver and hammer isn't making much headway.

Not on your life would I book this thing with any hopes of it being completed on time.

They'd have to give serious odds (AKA $200.oo a week for a couple) first.

WHY would one? What would you hope to get out of it?

If they brought in Haliburton it would cost eight times as much and the American taxpayers would end up paying for it!

And the downside for this Canadian would be????

heheheh :)

Hi all. I just got off the phone with Cozumel Palace and wanted to share the update. It looks like the opening will be March 2005. My husband and I have reservations for May 7-14th. We know that a "confirmation number" for our reservation will have no worth if we arrive and find a gutted building - :) However, we got such a great flight, plus room, plus AI package from Orbitz that we hate to consider changing our honeymoon reservations again (we were originally scheduled for Cayman Islands - cancelled thanks to Ivan). Total cost for two people, including travel insurance, was 3,362.72. Not bad for two people flying out of DC. I know you guys are on the ground and have opportunities to see it all first hand. I guess for the time being I will cross my fingers and hope for the best. I just keep reminding myself - we are going for the diving.

Please continue to keep us updated. The posts have been wonderful! Thanks.
