Recently while snorkeling in about 5 feet of water during a surface interval, three of us had a stingray approach and circle us several times. Once it passed between two of us (a distance of about 3 feet). It continued to swim about us (we were clumped together at this time) until we left the area to the ray. This occurred off a small island seldom visited by divers and we were never sure what prompted this behavior....any ideas???

Some stingrays in Florida do this same thing. Mostly around areas where they have been fed in the past.
