hey guys,

first post here! have a few quick questions that i would like to ask you experts.

i am about to graduate from emory univ. in atlanta in may and would like to take a month off before starting my job. I am planning to leave somewhere in mid may and come back to the states in mid june. i am thinking of renting a beach bungalow in koh tao for a month and doing a lot of diving.

1st question: Is it a good time to visit Koh Tao at this time?

2nd question: What do you guys think about anchoring myself in one place for a month as opposed to visiting various places to scuba dive during the month? Will I get bored of what I'm seeing in Koh Tao and wish that I had done some moving around?

3rd question: Do you have any recommendations of any place in the world that i should visit? I am kind of looking for a budget vacation and I kind of want to be away from all the very touristy places. So basically a place that is inexpensive with GREAT diving and maybe a little bit of nightlife that is great to visit during may to mid june.

Thanks for all of your help!

Hi there!
Answering your questions:

1- Koh tao is a great place with grat dives. I was there two years ago in December, high season down there. During the day it was hot but ok and at night it was the perfect temperature, no cold no hot.
I guess that in May-June the temperature is higher. But if your plan is to dive that shouldn’t be a problem.

2- Well, the good thing about Thailand is that you can move around for an affordable price (train and bus, the plane is a little bit more expensive but sometime worth paying).
In Thailand there are a lot of travelers getting around so if you get bored of Koh Tao and want to go somewhere else, you can always get good info from other divers.
It also depends on the kind of person you are. Personally I like to move around a little bit: one week here, another there… no stress but a little action.
If you go to Koh Tao and get bored you’ll find lots of places to go so you can leave it to the moment :)

3- In Thailand you have a little nightlife in Bankok.
In the Caribbean there’s party and GREAT dives. Never been there, but I’ve read and heard from others.
For GREAT dives I’ve been in the Red Sea in Egypt… it amazing!

Hope any of this helped!
Have a nice trip!
