I'm not diving doubles, I'm just curious. I recently had some dives where almost everyone was diving doubles. Two dives a day on one set. These were fairly shallow dives, like 45 ft. Seems like those on doubles were back on the boat after 35 mins, and I don't know why. Is there something I'm missing? They just being conservative? Sucking a lot of gas and not being honest with themselves? Whats the point of diving with doubles if you're going to be on the boat in a half hour?

Kind of hard to say without seeing the dive profile. When I dive my twin 72s, I can often get close to 2hrs of bottom time if diving in the 30 - 45 ft range. One fill and I can dive all morning or afternoon. Not uncommon for me to return for a SI with half of my air, and then go back for another dive.

They got bored or just wanted to test their kit? Maybe they recently did a doubles course and just wanted to get some boat dives in? Cold? Leaking kit?

Who knows--could be any number of reasons. Another one might be that if it was the first dive, they were planning on doing a longer second dive and wanted to have extra gas for that, or if it was the second dive then maybe they already did a longer first dive.
