Pioneer divers wanted. North Maluku, Island of Rao and West coast Morotai.Linda revisited her birth-island Rao last year for the first time after 15 years. To her surprise and excitement the place was still as beautiful as when she was a child. The magic bay of Batu Kopi has one of the most beautiful beaches of Indonesia. Facing the Pacific Ocean the water is crystal clear. The beach is a nesting-ground for turtles and the coast is the home of the almost extinct Coconut crabs. In a short survey in 2008 Mark Erdmann and Gerald Allen found the highest number of species of fishes and corals in dive ever, near the mall Island of Rao.Linda and her (former Dutch) husband Rob Sinke built Divers Lodge Lembeh in 2002 and Weda reef and rainforest Resort in 2011. Rob has been diving around the Raja Ampat Islands, North Halmahera and Central Halmahera since 1991. They received several awards for nature protection and conservation. The local population highly supports that Linda and Rob bought the land along the magic bay. To prevent that it would end up in the hands of big project developers. Such as was the plan of the local government. Further this area has a huge traditional cultural value for the local people and is considered sacred. Linda’s family already owned some of the parts of the land since generations. They invite you to join them on exploration dives during the best time of the year. In August 2014, you can stay in very a basic accommodation in the middle of a true paradise. The costs are Euro 95, - per day per person. This is including all (simple) meals and two boat dives. More dives possible. No internet connection, limited phone connection, limited electricity. More info: info@wedaresort.com
