I’ve been curious about the original Scuba Pro Pilot and it’s operation, unconverted pilots are hard to find but thanks to @Bald Wookie i have two to work on

I picked the rougher of the two to start with and disassembled for cleaning

so far this is about all I’ve had time for, I did dig out this tool to grip the pilot chamber, I’ve had it for many years but they are still available

just put the chamber in a piece of fuel line and squeez, perfect grip, and loosened right up…more to follow

That looks like a nifty solution, what would I search for to find one?

Link to the tool
don’t know if it has any other regulator uses but for this it was superb.
the second Pilothad it’s asperator facing the wrong way so I just turned it around, hooked it up to air and tried it, slight leak but amazing performance, no decernable cracking effort and more flow than my lungs can accept, this is going to be eye opening.

I see the amazon logo pop up for brief second and then disappear, but no link?

It works for me, look for loggerhead tools, bionic wrench

Ok, one done

i didn’t take pictures of the inside bits, had to improvise the main seat o ring and reused the tiny pilot o ring but it was still supple, need to find a few of the correct size for both of these.
on to tuning, first you adjust the pilot, which is the same as the lever adjustment on all of the center balance Regs, the set screw is turned in until it just starts leaking and back out until it just stops, you can just see the screw deep inside

Next is the fine tuning, after taking the purge button out you put the cover on and you tune it to the edge with the stud in the diaphragm which is attached to the lever

next leak check

and finally adjust the aspirator, if you don’t the thing can damage your lungs, truly amazing performance!

No joke about adjusting the aspirator correctly, I learned the hard way to test with purge and make sure it is not prone to free flow before taking a breath.

I have extras of the pilot specific orings, and will send a few your way in the morning.
