I currently have a Canon HF100 HD camcorder that I don't use much for above water. But as I'm getting back in to diving I'm thinking about doing some underwater videos. This was supurred on by the a banner ad for the JVC Picsio in an Ikelite case. I was looking at that and remembered that I hvae my HF100 sitting here as well. Would I be better off just getting an Ikelite enclosure for the HF100 or picking up the Picsio & Enclosure for about 1/2 that price?

More info:

I do already have an enclosure for my Canon SD1200is that I'll use for when I think I just want stills.

What do I envision doing with the camera?
- My primary want for it is that I'll be in Australia and doing a liveaboard for a week on the GBR. I think video will be cooler than pics for this situation.
- I also plan to visit the Bahamas in June and do some of the Stuart Coves dives such as their shark feed. That again seems like it'd be easier on video than with still shots

1. There are several discussions here on SB already about the JVC Picsio with video clips. You should check those out before you buy.

2. Your Canon HF100 records much better quality than the JVC can. There is a reason it costs more.

3. There are quite a few discussions here about what you should consider before going to video - how much time you have for editing, your home computer, software, etc. All of these are discussed here on other posts. Please read some of those before you buy an underwater housing.

4. Your profile says you are a new diver. It might be a good idea for you to wait awhile before jumping into video. It really does take some skill watching a video screen and keeping your bouyancy, keep track of your air consumption and your buddy.... task loading, not good for a newer diver.

Just my 2 cents.
