I'm thinking off building a removable gear transport "system" for a pick up bed. Anyone have ideas and hopefully pics of something they've done. I'd like to be able to carry six tanks and gear for three in a lockable unit.

When I was in Cuba, we went to the on base wood shop and cut some contour mounts for tanks to go in, boot first, the entire width of the bed w/ the valves pointing to the tailgate. Of course, these had boot stops so that if a valve broke, they could not shoot to the front of the bed. We also installed bungee mounts to tie the tanks down to the countour mounts.

For the lockable containers, we added a mounting plate to the front of the contour mounts that we could place "action packer" on and mount them. The Action totes are plastic w/ lock holes on two sides of the lid w/ click-lock handles. These also have holes in the bottom so you can easily put washers down on the inside and a self-tapping wood bolt right through them.

Sorry, we didn't take any pics of the design as the truck was passed on to an instructor on the island.

Here's a link to Rubbermaid's Action Packer section.
