OK here we go, this should get some replies !

Me and my mate are due to visit Phuket in the next three weeks. I am OWA and he want to do the OW. He does not have time for referal so I would like to know who it works over there. Does he get the same pool dives or are they done in the sea? how much? How long? We would like to dive a simple wreck whilst there. And lastly (anyone in Phuket) whats todays weather like?

Thanks... Also I want to bring my gear but want to stay on some islands over night. Whats the security like. Don't want my stuff pinched.

Steve,

I did my OW Couse with a guy from Jersey, England at West Coast Divers. It took three days. The first night in Phuket, I stayed in my room and studied the first three chapters. The next morning, I was quizzed on them and we went over the stuff I didn't understand. Then we did the last two chapters and headed to a pool. After doing all of the required skills we finished and I was picked up the next day to go on the boat for my first two open water dives. I did more quizzes and my exams on the boat. The third day, I finished up the next two dives, reviewed the five chapters and did my final exam on the boat.

Most boat rides are pretty long so there is plenty of time to discuss your concerns as well as do any tests or quizzes. You probably won't get a choice of dive site for the course but Phuket does have the King Cruiser as a wreck dive.

Steve,

As you mentioned, you are already certified. The same boat takes groups of divers out and instructors take their students out at the same time.

Most dive shops will post their dive site schedules and you can check them out on their websites too. For one example, check out West Coast Divers.
