Check out Arnoma Hotel, very convenient 5 min walk to the skytrain station, and a bustling night market right at the hotel's doorstep starting at about 7pm till late. Perfectly safe to walk back to the hotel even late at night. US$80 for a double room.

Asia Hotel is less pleasant aesthetically, but comfortable and clean. Conveniently located right beside the skytrain station, and very very afforadably priced if you are on a tight budget. Do note that some of the rooms do not have any windows though. Less than US$50 per night, if I remember correctly - very good value for money if you are not fussy about frills.
