My goal is to do 5 nights on a liveaboard in either the Similan Islands or Tubattaha. The rates I'm getting is $200 and up/day.

Does that seem high to anyone? Considering these are two countries where dives are very cheap, hotels are even cheaper and food is dirt cheap.I paid ~$45 for two dives in the philippines, hotel nearby was $25, food was about $4-$5/meal. So what am I missing? Is it the experience on being out in the middle of now where?

For Thailand try this site http://www.sunrise-divers.com/ , I am not associated with the company at all, indeed I AM associated with www.damnam.org (which by definition and constitution is not associated with anyone) but I have masses of respect for Sunrise and the way they handle their business. Highly recommended.

I don't know where you're looking, but yes, you are looking in the wrong places.
Liveaboards to Similans and Richelieu Rock start at about 120 US$ per day, up to about 250 US$. The cheaper boats are safe, but without luxury.

Stevenl , do you work in the dive industry there?

If you do I would like to ask a few questions...

Start a thread? PM ?

Thanks

Ron

This does sound rather expensive but then you might be looking at The Junk or other more luxurious boats. The Junk is well worth it - in fact I did not want to get off the boat after our cruise!!!There are other liveaboard boats with prices starting at about US 112 dollars per day plus Similan Park fees at 5 US dollars per day. Le Mahe and Jonathan Cruiser are both less expensive options and are professionally run and the crew are experienced.

Thanks for the links. That's more along the prices I was looking for. I most recently looking at Tubattah and that was much more expensive, maybe because it's pretty far from land.

thanks again

bookings for tubattaha has started as the season begins soon. price ranges for live aboards are around US$1,000.00 excluding travel from manila to puerto princesa airport and ferries. :o)
