The Philippine Coral Reef Exhibit, the World's Deepest Living Coral Reef Display
The underwater beauty and biodiversity of the Philippine waters will be put in the spotlight in a permanent exhibit at the California Academy of Sciences (CAS) when it opens its doors to the public on the 27th of September this year.
The Philippine Coral Reef Exhibit, the World's Deepest Living Coral Reef Display, will be housed in a 212,000-gallon aquarium tank in the new CAS at the Golden State Park in San Francisco and it will feature a variety of corals, fish, and other sea creatures that are native to the Philippines. According to CAS Senior Curator Dr. Terry Gosliner during the recently concluded Philippine Divers Night; a regular networking mixer for underwater enthusiasts sponsored by the Philippine Department of Tourism, held at the Philippine Center Building in San Francisco, the Philippine Marine Biodiversity is something that the Academy has wanted to showcase. Dr. Meg Burke, Director of Education at the CAS, exclaims that it is amazing how the Filipino Community has been very cooperative and excited about the Philippine Coral Reef Display at the Academy. She says she is overwhelmed by how much support the CAS got from the Filipino Community in making the exhibit a spectacular possibility.
Rene Delos Santos, Philippine Department of Tourism Director in San Francisco, said that the exhibit will greatly help in positioning the Philippines as a premier diving destination as it will give viewers a glimpse of a world that they can experience once they plunge into the clear, warm tropical waters of the Philippines.
Similar to the Philippine wild reef exhibit at the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago, the CAS exhibit will replicate the biodiversity, the color and uniqueness of the Philippine Coral Reef.
