I've never been to Coz. Is the trip to PDC something that can be done in an afternoon after diving? Is there anything to experience in PDC that is not available in Coz? How about touring the east side of the island, afternoon or full day?

I guess I should ask is there anything to do in or around Coz that requires and is worth missing a day of diving? :06:

Touring the east side is an all day affair for the folks I go with. There is no electricity over there, so the little beach clubs close pretty early. The Paradise Cafe (where we end up at the end of the excursion) closes at 5.

PdC, however can be easily done after the morning dives; it's a 45 minute ferry ride, and the ferry runs until 10 pm.

You can do the east side after diving... IF you're there in the summer when it gets dark later in the day. It also depends on if you plan on drinking (there are a lot of bars to check out) or just seeing the sites (beaches, Coconuts, surfers). I never drink when I'm on vacation so that never appeals to me... I work in a bar, I go on vacation to escape the alcohol!

As far as PDC goes... The Cenotes are something that should be experienced at least once. Christi set me up with a guide who took us diving in a Cenote and then over to Tulum which has about the most breathtaking setting as you can get for Mayan ruins. I'm sure it's no Chichen-Itza but the beach below Tulum is Awesome! That was a nice day! The great thing about Diego is: he has a car in PDC. He basically holds your hand the whole way... no thinking involved (which is another thing I try to get away from on vacation)!

Let me preface this with I go to Akumal all the time to cave dive and Coz once or twice a year for open water dives. So, I might be slightly biased on bothering to take the ferry. Having said that, unless you are there for a long trip or are not a very avid diver, I wouldn't bother with the trip over to PDC. The ruins in Tulum are cool if you like that sort of thing. Personally, I would rather get in more dives. Not a big fan of the cenote tours so I won't comment on that. As for PDC itself, it isnt' that different than Cozumel.

The trip to the far side of the island is a good trip after finishing morning dives on your last day. Rent a jeep and drive over for the afternoon. Tons of little bars with hammocks along the beach and the blowholes are kind of cool. It only takes an afternoon to see everything unless you hit every bar or stay at one too long.

Thanks for the input. Spent two weeks in Belize and did the Mayan ruins in the Cayo. It sounds like the best thing to do is plan to dive each day. My last trip (Curacao) had a departure time of 8:20 AM, so not diving the day before was a no-brainer. This one is a 2:45 PM departure so diving each day is a possibility.
