Hi ,
Im looking at buying the patima housing for the g11 and want to know if the Inon UFL 165 AD fisheye lens is compatible.

Mr Bubbes,
the UFL165AD is not (directly) compatible as it has for the AD Bayonet system.
Innovative compact size as attachment fish-eye converter. As same as other AD Mount series lenses, UFL-165AD carries INON AD bayonet system enabling you to easily install/change attachment lens even underwater.

Ikelite produces a adapter to mount AD style bayonet to their housings and this may work.
As the lens will be further away due the adapter ring there may be some vignetting and you have to verify this throughly.
The Patima housing has the 67mm tread only on the wide angle port and zooming is very limited with this port as the camera's lens will touch the port glass.
I use the UWL-100 lens on my Patima G11 housing and i have to zoom slightly in to eliminate vignetting. For this, the only direct fit i know will be the UWL 100 with the dome lens unit.

Chris

P.S. Here a list of 67mm tread mount lenses for the Patima G11 housing:

Austrian UW Photo shop unterwasserkamera.at is constructing and selling a slip-over 67mm adapter for the Patima G11 zoom port:

This neat thing allows to use various 67mm tread zoom lenses.

Using adapers there may be other lenses to use with the Patima G11 wide angle port!

The Inon UWL100-67mm would be a Type 2, not a Type 1 for this installation.

The UFL165AD will not work aside from the bayonet mount issues, it is not compatible with the G10 or G11 for several reasons on any housing. There is a reason I got the S90 and that is partly why instead of the G series, compatibility with the S90 and the UFL165AD. As has been noted on other forums, many people pick the camera to work with the lenses they like to shoot, I love the UFL165AD and thus any camera that could not shoot that lens was out of the running.

The Fisheye dome lens UWL-04 is a 52mm thread or a ST bayonet mount. The 52mm version comes with a 52 to 67mm step up ring. It may or may not work with the Patima but of course there is a version of this lens for the FIX G series housings that does work very well.

If you already have the Inon 165AD then you want the Canon S90 with FIX 90 housing and I refer you to this thread:

Good luck.

Nemrod,
why doe's the UFL165AD not work if a AD adapter will be available?

Well, you could try the 10Bar AD to 67mm adapter. But, I have physically held the lens to a G9, 10 and 11 using an optical bench (home made) and the lens cannot be made to stop vignetting until zoomed to nearly 75mm at which point there is terrible distortion and no advantage gained. The G series lens is too large in diameter and too much zoom range.

But I welcome your attempts to prove me wrong, because that would certainly increase our options, please give it a try and report back.

Now the UCL165AD macro lens, might work just fine, the UFL165AD fisheye lens, not. The UFL165AD and all AD series lenses were designed for compact cameras (with small compact lenses like the S90, Canon 570 etc) with a 35mm equivalent lens and a 3X or less zoom range, any deviations from that are a compromise, some of which can be overcome and some of which cannot.

Hmm,
i guessed that vignetting may be a problem...
I think i will hand over this particular test to be done by a dealer who has the UFL165AD, a adapter ring and the Patima housing on stock. I am too far away from assorted uw-photo shops to test it by my self and also my finacial ressurces are limited to buy gear that work.
