From Dr. Sam Williams Echo Bonaire

Thank you for supporting nature in Bonaire. On land, poaching is a problem. Echo Bonaire has rescued many unweaned starving parrots. These rapidly growing parrots need stuff to explore. If you are coming to Bonaire please bring the birds some parrot toys! Contact us info@echobonaire.org if you can bring some, thanks!

Great idea....And what do parrots play with......Can you give some ideas?

Ann,

Thanks to your posts here, my wife and I were able to take 25 pounds of food down to Sam a couple of weeks ago.

For those that want to help and are headed down, contact Dr. Sam Williams and find out what he needs. I do know that they need some of the 30ml feeding syringes as the ones they have are worn out.

If you time it right, you should be able to travel out to his place and see just how dedicated he is to the mission. I have tons of pictures from my trip and thoroughly enjoyed meeting Dr. Williams.

I think we need to bump this one at least once a week just to remind everyone.

What is the long range solution to this poaching problem?

Those parrots seem to be quite plentiful on the island. How about a captive breeding program to supply the pet trade demand which could both provide profit for Echo Bonaire and take the incentive out of poaching?
