Pulau Weh, when I dive there on June 2009, the visibility was good. About 20 - 30 meters I think, especially in Seulakoh. The average is 15 m but volcano and the Weh shorelines.
Canyon: saw a napoleon wrasse and schooling angelfishes, average 20 - 35 m depths has nice sea fans and anthias.
Arus Baleh: have to crawl to cross the downcurrent to get to the pinnacle. Schooling fusiliers, anthias and angelfish.
Peunateung; lot of sea fans and barrel sponge at 25 - 30 neter.
Rubiah: sites to find nudibranch, eels, nice reefscape.

Overally, it is worthy to spend money for diving in the island.

Cheers

There never was a need to overnight in Banda Aceh due to visas. The visa had to be arranged BEFORE flying to Banda Aceh. Sometimes the flight schedules change so that you land in Banda too late to make the last ferry accross to the island tho'. Keep an eye on flight times, they don't change very often tho'. You can fly from KL with Air Asia, or from Penang with Fire Fly. At the moment, both will allow you plenty of time to make the ferry.....[/

In StaleyCups reply he referred to "Visa on Arrival" implying arriving w/o a Visa. Which if before you didn't have a Visa in hand you had to first fly to Medan to get it. Than fly to BA. This made it very difficult to arrive Banda Aceh in time to catch the ferry and hence a mandatory overnight stay in BA. Of course if you already had a Visa it made it much easier to connect.
