Is it necessary to pre-book dives in Palau with the main operators or is there enough space to stay somewhat flexible? How far in advance do you pre-book there?
Thanks for the advice!

I don't think it would be a good idea to take a dive trip anywhere without having your accomodations/diving booked in advance. Depending on what time of year you are thinking about going to Palau, you might have to book your hotels and dives 6 months to a year in advance. You haven't experienced chaos until you've been on the dock of one of the major dive operators in Palau as they try to cram everybody onto the boats in the morning. I refer to it as "assembly line diving". Remember, Palau is one of the top dive destinations on the planet. Plan accordingly.

That's not to say you can't book two months in advance. Just don't plan on it, especially between Nov-Jan.
