My daughter age 12 will be starting her Jr. O/W in 2 weeks and I'm wondering if the course exam is the exact same as the adult exam ?

Hi,

Yes the course exam is the exact same for adults as for children. And this is why it is accessible from 10 yrs old & above.

The exercises are all the same, the only difference is that the 2 last open water dives will be limited to 12 meters instead of 18m for the 15yrs old & above.

She will just love it.

I did the Jr.O/W and we used the O/W book so I think there the same. Has to be the same cuz when i turned 15 i didnt have to take another test.
I think thats right, Im not a Dive instructor tho.

when you do the Jr OWD course, before 15 yrs old, you have the right to dive with supervision of an adult or parent down to 12m depth.

when you reach 15 years old, you can ask for a replacement card, you'll pay the certification card at the basic price of your DC. You will then be able to dive to 18m according to your training & experience with the temporary card, and then with the final card.

There is no such thing as a Jr open water book, or as as Scuba diver book, as they are part or integrality of the open water training.

For the Jr, the limit on depth is due to the higher risks on the lungs of children if they are not totally "finished" in growth, and of the ability of taking someone up from 18m if necessary... responsability is high for a diver of 10 years old no ?

My friend had a PADI Junior cert when she was a kid . She hasn't been diving in a long time, but would like to get her regular OW card. Will she be required to go through the OW course again?

Not required, bit....... recommendations will depend on what you mean by "She hasn't been diving in a long time".

Definitely a refresher or Scuba Tune-up is in order and the instructor should/will evaluate her skills at that time. PADI does not require repeating the OW certification, but I would recommend finding an instructor that has a lot of experience raining children/young adults and make sure he does a thorough assessment and seriously brushes up on her skills.

If "She hasn't been diving in a long time" means that it has been a multiple of years, then my recommendation would be yes, take an OW course over.

If she's not dived for such a length of time, I think it would be wise to redo it anyway.

Cheers,

Mark

a new course would be the commercial thing to do, the tune-up would be the best with an option on the owd course again if it is really bad.

Like give her a chance on the book & trying to pass the exam, then with the results tell her that the course would show her all again etc, and go through the theory. If she gets it allright, why redo ?? :)
