hey everyone
any recommendations on a good padi idc center in thailand. i am looking to spend a couple of months in thailand and i want to get my divemaster certification. i am currently open water certified and would like to increase all the way to divemaster, i understand that this takes time that is why i am planning to spend a few months in thailand. any ideas or comments on places? there is just so many places in thailand that offer an idc center and i do not know whick one to pick. any suggestions or peoples experiences would be nice. price is really the main concern as i will be living there. so a good place with a good price, and awesome diving. thanks.

Are you looking to become a DM or an Instructor? You can become a DM through any good PADI shop; 5* IDC Centres are only required if you want to become an Instructor.

And while I can relate to your request for good pricing, that should not be the deciding factor when looking for training. The INSTRUCTION is what counts, not how much it costs.

BTW, it takes more than "a few months" to go from OW to DM. (At least if you want to be a GOOD one.)

Just thought you might want to bear the above in mind before you get too keen on this idea.

DSDO,
hey
i completely understand that any dive shop can grant me the divemaster as long as i pass the course and achieve all the pre-requisites. the main reason that i am doing this little trip to thailand is to gain great experience in diving in general in a short period of time. if i were to sign up at a local dive shop and get all of my certifications seperately and log all of my dives needed it would it take a insanely long time. IDC centers in thailand offer a 2-3 month program that teaches open water certification all the way to divemaster. they do this by diving every single day, and teaching every single day. i am leaving for NAVY DIVE TRAINING IN CORONADO, CA in less than a year and i am trying to grasp all the dive experience i can in a short period of time to get ahead of the game. going to thailand offers me unsurpassed training that i cannot get at a local dive shop. joing an internship program is something that just fits right for me right now. and i completely understand that building a good divemaster does take more than a few months. I will have my share of mentally challenging dives, and training in coronado, dives that the public and most recreational divers will never do. so i am confident that i will become a promising dm in the near future. thanks for your reply.

Hi,

Do you know where in Thailand you would like to do your training? There are more than a few 5 Star PADI Dive Canters I can recommend. They all have different schedule and durations of the course. IDC schedule depends on location again. Please e-mail us if you need more information.

I personally would recommend Asia Divers / Buddha View. I did my dmt and then IDC / MSDT there.

I'd recommend them because I feel that I learned more than the min pre-requisite necessary for each course. I also found the course assistants went out of their way to help and advise outside of course hours.

The course directors, Mark Sawelli and Guy Corsellis, are laso well known and held in high regard in the industry, they have many contacts both in and outside of thailand and arewell placed to get you a job if you so wish either on Koh Tao where the centre is based or farther afield.

pm me if you need any thing further.

hey thanks so far guys. i was looking at koh tao it seems to be a good place for training, that is what everyone is telling me. any good places in koh tao. so far i am looking at planet scuba, and the dive site. i dont know any other places on koh tao. thanks any other suggestions would be awesome.

Planet Scuba are also excellent from what I've heard. Hope you enjoy the diving as well as learning side, there's lots of fun sites there.

not to go off thread TOO MUCH... where are you at the mo? what kind of diving you doing at the moment? If it's somewhere in the south pacific I'm gonna take a guess that it's a damn sight warmer and nicer than up here in bonny scotland!
