I've found that student have very different desires in an Equipment Specialty. Some are prepared to spend a ton on new gear, and want to know how to evaluate it and choose it. Some want to know more about field trouble-shooting and maintenance...what you can do in the field, and what not to do in the field. Some want to actually learn how to service their gear. Some just like to buy tools and need some excuses. Some just need a non-diving specialty to get them through the winter. The basic PADI course does not met all these needs, but a good instructor with a small class can come close.
