All,
I signed up for the PADI Enriched Air course and wanted to see if there was any advice or hints that you folks can provide before I start the classes. Specifically, should I look into any special equiptment for the course or will my normal gear be fine?

thanks,
G.

normal gear is fine

...if you don't have a nitrox computer you probably want to think about getting one....

Read the manual (Duh) ;-) Also if you already have an idea of how the MOD and EAD equations work it makes it a lot more fun.

Good luck its a fun course!

I know most, if not all, new regs work up to EAN40 right out of the box, but you might want to check yours if it is older. I was Nitrox certified only about 60 dives ago, 38 Nitrox dives, so I might not be correct.

Just prepare for a piece of paper, pen, and calculator for the exam and bank payment for the class. That's it.

Go back and practice your air dive tables.

Though manufacturers may deny it and post above leave it unclear, Any regulators that are in working order are acceptable for Recreational Nitrox as in the PADI course. Some manufacturers claim that regs arn't Nitrox compatable, but this normally means that you should not use them with advanced nitrox mixes, or is done to absolve the manufacturer of lawsuits. Tanks, however, should be O2 clean. This is not allways needed, as it is mostly a concern if the shop first adds oxygen to the tank and then the Nitrogen. You should ask the shop you are taking the class from about this. There is also a discussion of tanks in teh PADI manual, which as stated above you should read before attending.

The main differeance for items labled as Nitrox compatable or not has to do with the libricants and o-rings. Once again this is normally not a problem for recreational (=<40%) Nitrox. Also you shop may beable to use the oxygen compatable libricants and orings the next time your reg is serviced, if you are concerned about it.

Does any one own there own O2 analyzer?? If so what kind and how much did you pay for this thing?? I too am taking the Enriched air corse.

Regards, George

Is anyone taking the PADI online Nitrox course. I am currently in West Africa working and want to take this course. I noticed that I have to pick a local PADI center to enroll in the course but I want to do my dives in St. Lucia which is not local. Any info would be appreciated.
