Thinking about starting divemaster cert - any pointers in Pompano Beach or lower Keys area?

Which agency? Curious ... why Pompano Beach and Lower Keys but not other areas in SE FL such as Ft. Lauderdale or Palm Beach or Key Largo? Those other areas have alot more pro training options available.

Coming from Chicago - I have places to stay either in Pompano or Islamorada

If you'll be in Islamorada then the shops in Key Largo should be fine, right? I don't consider Islamorada to be "lower Keys".

How long are you planning to take to complete it?
A good DM course should take several months.
Why not do it locally?
Have you taken any tech courses yet?
Good idea to do that before you take DM and get too indoctrinated in recreational diving.
Take the tech classes and get a dose of reality first.
Are you planning to work as a DM or do you want to get more skills and knowledge?
If the latter, there are better ways than DM.

In real life any shop between WPB and Islamorada will work perfectly fine. The goal is to get to Instructor level to be able to retire to Caribbean in next 6-8 years and have a boat for some diving and fishing tours

Pura Vida, WPB area
Sea Experience, Ft. Lauderdale
Rainbow Reef, Key Largo

Those are the three top PADI-focused IDCs in the area. If PADI is what you are focusing on, you will do fine with any of those three. I would recommend that you interview all three of those and work your way through the decision making process based upon which one works best for you. But from a PADI IDC perspective, those are the big 3 in the area.
