Maybe PADI or a instructor can shead some light on this for me. I have completed a PADI class and the LDS says they will submit the new certification for me electronically. Don't have to send in any paperwork. Well we tried this 4 times over 5 months and still no card from PADI. Now I have two other buddies that took a class also and are wondering where there cards are that have been submitted electronically. So the question is this.

1. Can LDS submit new certifications electronically to the agency? Or is it only for reordering cards?

2. Is this a problem for other PADI LDS or just the one I am using?

1 Yes,when being a PADI divecenter,not just a instructor

2 Never heard it before,so you LDS is doing something wrong.Give PADI a call.

Good luck, hope you get your card soon.

I agree with Evert...give PADI a call. I recently finished a course which was purchased for me as a gift and my paperwork was submitted electronically. 2 weeks later I had my card.

Give them a call and I am sure they will be glad to get you straightened out.

Yes I will contact PADI. I took a previous class with the LDS and had to fax the PADI temp card and then got my cert card within 2 weeks. Its just annoying that I have to do this again, and my other buddies are in the same situation.

Maybe ask PADI what the dive OP could be doing wrong to have this happen twice because I am sure they would rather the submissions be done properly so as not to unnecessarily tie up their resources. Who knows....it may help for next time.

When the LDS submits the PIC application on line, the last screen generates a temporary Positive Identification Card in the form of an 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper. A second printout is labeled to be inserted into your file.

If you didn't get that then there's some sort of problem on the LDS's part. The electronic record of the application also shows up in the certification database within two to four days in my experience.

Sometimes the database can get messed up. I received my enriched air card within 3 weeks, but I didn't show up in the database. It was because when it was submitted electronically, they omitted the A initial in my middle name. Apparently it is impossible to correct this by editing the database. So, I now have two me's in the database, one with an A and one without an A.

The other thing is that the LDS must purchase PIC credits in order to use the on line system. So, you would have to verify that they actually had credits at the time that they said they would submit the PIC on line and actually did it by evidence of the temporary printout.

You also have to have a photo to upload and the photo must be 250KB or less in size. If your photo is not the right size, the system will not allow the on line application to go through.

They ought to be able to do it on the spot. It takes less than 5 minutes to do if you do it properly. I also prefer to do the PICs on line since I can process them without having to have the student sign the card. That way, I can give them the printout as soon as they show up.

So, you had the very same problem once before and yet you went with the same flawed approach a second time? It's pretty clear that the LDS has no idea how to resolve the matter.

The very best way to get a card is to have the instructor sign off the PIC card and mail it yourself. Never, ever, let that temporary card out of your sight.

The second best way is to have the instructor mail it but this is workable only if the instructor is 'independent' of the LDS.

The worst possible solution is to have the instructor drop it on the desk of a training coordinator so that your 'permanent record' can be updated'. It can sit on that desk forever.

It may be that some shops are better than others. My grandson waited 2 months without receiving a card. I eventually squared it away directly with PADI but that was only possible because I had the temporary card. The LDS and the instructor did absolutely nothing to help us out.

BTW, PADI was terrific in the way in which they handled the problem. Very professional!

Well I agree with you rstofer that the LDS does not seem to know what the problem is or how to resolve it. They claim it has been working for others. I let them submit the second cert card the same way anticipating that it would be the same issue(but hoping for the best), but knowing that I could just fax my temp card to PADI to get the permanent card. But now hearing from my buddies that they are having the same issue I thought I would ask here what the process is. I have had no problem with PADI, they have been very responsive in helping me get my card. BTW neither me or my buddies got a print out when they submitted it at the shop while we where there. They always gave us a temp card like when submitting it thru the mail. I also like the shop and instructors, so don‘t want to make a big issue, as long as I get my card. I will pass this info on to them, so hopefully they can correct it in the future.

So you get the temp.card from a PIC and they submit online.I think there's something they don't understand. They're paying twice.
