I came across this:

http://www.mantisdive.com.au/courses.htm#PADV

Those PADI divers wishing to increase their diving theory knowledge and their ability to dive safely free from direct supervision would be advised to undertake the PADI Advanced Plus course instead of the Advanced course. This course has an academic workbook and informal theory assessment as well as the requirement for 9 certification dives. These dives are all the dives listed above. There is also a requirement for you to hold a recognised First Aid certification.

I couldn't find anything on the padi website itself, is this a standard PADI course?

Maybe the store itself combines more than one PADI course so you get AOW/Rescue in one course.

PADI once offered that course, but it was dumped a few years ago. It's a shame, it was actually a pretty good course, not like AOW.

Not sure if it's still supported, but AOW+ used to be a completed AOW course, plus a first aid course and completion of the Diving Knowledge Workbook (and/or lectures). Basically it should bring your dive theory knowledge up to that required for DM but doesn't add any practical skills to a standard AOW.

If it's not offered anymore, there's nothing stopping you just buying the DKW and also the Encylopedia of Recreational Diving and just working the theory out - a lot of it is very interesting, for example knowing exactly how decompression models work has made a huge difference to how I choose to plan my dives.
