I've read that all the Nitrox tanks come from one place in Cozumel and you get your tanks on the boat. Are there any operators that provide an analyzer on the boat so that you can analyze your tank? thanks

There are actually two stations that fill nitrox now.

Any operator providing nitrox should also provide an anlyzer on the boat. It is best to contact your specific operator to answer this question.

When I dove with Deep Blue a couple of weeks ago they provided me with an Oxygen Analyzer - I got the impression that was the norm. I didn't know how to use that model properly, though (and should have asked) - it was a sniffer analyzer, where mine uses a closed circuit. I ended up losing about 400 psi out of my tank before the DM finally showed me how to use it.

I think I remember reading one of Christis other posts that you'd better call ahead for Nitrox if you want it. If you ask for Nitrox the morning of your dive you have a good chance of not getting it.

thanks guys, that is good to know--I had gotten the impression from some other posts on this forum that you were on your own with a lot of operators there and had to bring your own analyzer. This will be the first time I use Nitrox after getting my cert so I hope I don't have trouble using the analyzer. (I'm planning to dive air the first day I'm there just to get acclimated).

We just had a group down to Cozumel. Even with 14 of them diving nitrox the boat did not have an analyzer. The comment was "they have the sticker on them."

Suffice to say that the operator now has a pile of OxySpys on board.

However, if you dive nitrox you need to have your own oxygen analyzer. Just like you have your own computer and regulator you need to be able to analyze your gas without being dependent on someone elses tools.

Visit our site, order up an OxySpy and we wil take an extra $10 off if you mention this post.

Just dove for 7 days with Aldora. I had my own but they did provide an analyzer for other divers. All tanks were within 1% of what was marked on tank. Have a great trip.

I have to respectfully disagree with you. As a resort dive operator, if you are going to provide nitrox, you need to also provide an analyzer for each boat at least. What about when their divemasters want/need to dive nitrox? What about nitrox students...do you think they should buy an analyzer before they do their certification?

Vacationers shouldn't be expected to bring thier own, a good analyzer is not inexpensive and in my opinion is a service the operator should provide if offering nitrox.

I never disagree with this one. All providers of oxygen enriched air should have an analyzer available.

DMs / Instructors should have a unit available to use. Instructors should own thier own.
What about nitrox students...do you think they should buy an analyzer before they do their certification?.
Students enrolled in an oxygen enriched air certification class should be provided with an analyzer to use. Considering that one of the requirements of certification is to learn how to and properly demonstrate accurate cylinder analysis units are to be available for use. Should a student wish to purchase a unit during training all the better.

Expected no, they should not be expected to bring thier own. However, most people who use nitrox on a regular basis make the small investment of their own analyzer.

I've been involved with nitrox diving for a very long time. Most people I know and dive with own an oxygen analyzer. When I go on trips (vacation) it's not uncommon for us to see 4-5 analyzers among our people. It's just become standard to have the tools.

I can remember my own personal first nitrox class in 1989, I think we had 12 students in that class. Nine purchased units.

I never travel without an analyzer. I was out this past friday on a boat off Catalina. With the other divers and myself we had three analyzers.

Joel,

I also don't disagree that those planning to dive nitrox should invest in their own analyzer at some point. I guess my point was more towards those that do not have their own for whatever reason, I think the operator should ALSO have one.

What is your website by the way?

I just purchased two new analyzers at DEMA, but always good to have information on other models for future purchases.
