will most wings attach to most backplates I dive mostly in Kentucky so I'm always in a wetsuit from 3mm to 7mm. I'm looking at a 30# camo oxycheq wing but was wondering if they will fit on any plate!

Yes. Standard bp holes are 11" apart, which the oxycheq wing is made to fit.

Holes are standard but their appear to be two standards of cam-band spacing. So if you don't use an STA, you should check. Some plates will fit both standards (they have a total of 6 cam-band slots).

There are a number of slot configs in both wings and plates.

I know for a fact the Oxy wing slots line up with the slots on Hammerhead and DiveRite plates. Otherwise, a STA may be in order (which I much prefer to a STA-less application.

My Oxycheq wings (two Mach V Extreme 30 lbs and one Razor 18 lbs) do fit my OMS and Dive Rite backplates, without STA.

The first models of Mach V hadn't slots ; then slots were added but no integrated "no-roll" system, so you more or less needed a STA with these wings (BTW, Oxycheq's SS STA is excellent). Now, with Oxycheq's no-roll system integrated (normally) to each Oxycheq Mach V, a STA is no longer mandatory, provided the slots of the BP and the slots of the wing fit.

As mentioned already, the spacing of the holes for mounting the STA and the wing on the backplate is pretty much standard now (11") so normally with a STA you can put almost any wing on almost any plate.

I use my Oxycheq wings with and without STA on my OMS backplate (I found this BP much more comfortable on my back than the Dive Rite, but this is personal, anyway it's much better to try the BP on your back before purchasing !)

- Using a STA adds some ballast and prevents chafing from the cam-bands on the slots of the wing (but this is not really an issue). Also it adds some thickness, so the lower part of the wing is not sandwiched too tight between your butt and the tank (for this you can also use washers, or even some webbing with a hole, if no STA ; and again it's not a big issue)

- Using no STA allows to put the tank slightly lower on your back, then your neck is less likely to be knocked by your reg. And if you use an Aluminum BP, then you won't have issues with the STA nuts "biting" or corroding your BP.

- For stability, I found that using a STA or no STA made no difference with my Oxycheq wings.

Hope this helps.

I too like a STA less setup too but I rely on the STA to take weight off my belt.
While I love my Halcyon add on weight pockets...I'd rather keep them in storage and only pull them out when travelling to places where I have to use their AL 80's.

Although the hole spacing is standard, I did run into a problem a couple of years ago when trying an Oxycheq doubles wing with a Halcyon plate. The lower corners of the plate are bent backwards a little, and were hitting the zipper on the wing. It might not have caused a problem, but I just got an Oxycheq plate to go with the wing.

Interesting. Never gave that a thought, but I certainly can see it.
