Overly sensitive Ranger inflator dump

No, I didn't insult it and make it cry. :D

Rather, it takes just a slight pull on the inflator to trigger the dump valve. Sometimes just grabbing the inflator while adding air will cause the valve to open. I'm assuming the cable from valve to inflator is too tight. In all other ways the valve works fine with no leakage.

Would it be better to lengthen the cable or is there some option? Just how much play should this dump have (stretch in the hose) before the dump valve should open?
 
Follow-up: Turns out (after taking the dump valve apart) that the valve spring was too weak and needed replacing. Located a similar sized spring but with more tension and now it all works like a charm.
