Hi folks. I just wanted to share a few pic's of our trip to the Cook Islands this last August. I know I'm new here(and a newbie diver) but we really enjoyed Rarotonga. Please keep in mind that these pics were taken w/ a cheesy underwater camera rated to 75ft. The flash didn't work even. Sorry for the "blueness". Hope you like them. Here's a pic of my wife and I:

Here's another one of the reef slope wit a Moorish Idol and Butterfly in the foreground:

Sounds like a good set up to me!!!. Here is what I did. Seeing that the throw away cameras were only rated to 15 or 20 ft, I bought my wife a Reefmaster for X-mas last year. Then I "had" to get the strobe for it. It was recomended by several people here. Now we both enjoy taking turns with the camera.

(now i see they're making a digital reefmaster, hmmm, how can I justify this one??) :D:

Thanks for sharing the pics!!

Tavi,

Yeah, after our experiences w/ cameras on our last trip, we purchased a Reefmaster kit this last weekend ourselves. We'll try it in Belize this February.

Went to the LDS dive club meeting last night and the Rep for reefmaster was there giving the "skinny" on the new digital Sealife is coming out with . He said it will be selling for about $540 for the whole outfit. Cables, rechargeable batteries, etc. I am not too bright when it comes to the tech lingo but it sounded pretty nice. And oh, it has a clear case similar to the case the Reefmaster is in and all the reefmaster accessories are compatible (strobe, macro lens, etc.) :D

I have been toying with buying the Olympus c 3040 or a digital video BUTTTTTTT, we may have to give this a go, at least try to find a place that will let me demo it before I pull the trigger.

Aragorn,
Congrats on your camera purchase! I know it's added a lot to our diving experiences.

socal,
Thanks for the scoop on the digital, I think I'm going to have to check into it. I have a digital land camera. It's nice to be able to look at and delete those pics that the camera didn't see the same way I saw, Also would save a lot in processing.

What outfit did you dive with on Rarotonga? My wife and I went last June and dove with Cook Island Divers. Did you dive off of Aitutaki also? I bet it was a great trip.

JustAddWater,

We dove w/ Pacific Divers. They're a bit smaller than Cook Island Divers and were closer to where we were staying. Graham(the owner) was great and gave us his full attention.

We wanted to go to Aitutaki but didn't get the chance. Next time we go, we'll definitely get ther though. Yes, it was a wonderful trip. The boys(all 3 of them) thought it was fantastic. :)
