Two versions of the story so I will post both...

Body of missing diver found in St. Lawrence River: Brockville police
An Ottawa man is dead after taking a scuba diving excursion in Brockville.

Brockville police were called to Canteen Park Saturday afternoon after a diver did not return as planned from the St. Lawrence River.

Police say he was an experienced diver, who had been to the same diving spot several times in the past.

Sunday, the body of a 61-year-old was pulled from river near Ogdensburg, N.Y., about 20 Kilometres downstream.

At the request of the family, the man’s name will not be released.

Ottawa-area man dies while diving near Brockville | Ottawa Citizen
An Ottawa-area man in his 60s died while diving in the St. Lawrence River off Brockville on the weekend, police have confirmed.

Police recovered the man’s body on Sunday morning, said Brockville Police Service acting Sgt. April Muldoon.

“He went missing yesterday afternoon and he was located this morning in the waterway in the St. Lawrence River,” said Muldoon, adding police found the man’s body after it drifted to the American side of the river.

Police were withholding the victim’s name at the request of the family, Muldoon said.

Few details were available, but Muldoon said the man went diving Saturday off the shore at Centeen Park.

The man’s remains were still in the hands of New York State authorities late Sunday afternoon; the body was to be returned to Canada for a post-mortem examination.

Centeen Park is a popular spot for divers, who often head out from the east-end location to explore local wrecks or a nearby underwater sculpture park.

Helen Cooper, owner of Dive Brockville Adventure Centre, said many people continue to dive the river despite the colder weather. Divers can continue diving as long as the river is not frozen. Cooper runs her own charters until it’s too cold for the boat to go out.

There were “quite a few divers” in her shop Saturday and Sunday, but the victim was not among her customers, added Cooper.

In talking with other members of the diving community, Cooper was told the victim was part of a father-son diving expedition, but learned no details about how the incident unfolded.

The tragedy was the first local diving fatality of the year, said Cooper.

“I thought that we’d got through a whole year without any tragedies,” she added.

Cooper extended her sympathies to the victim’s family.

Despite the terrible outcome, the fact the victim’s body has been recovered might at least provide the family with some closure, she said.

“That’s always the hard, hard part, is when a tragedy happens and you can’t find them,” said Cooper. “Now they’ll be getting some answers about what happened.”

The first version is consistent with information I received yesterday regarding the diver being found downstream. It is not uncommon for divers to end up on the US side of the border that divides the St Lawrence River. Further details likely to follow in the coming days. Terrible tragedy.

I’d doubt we will hear more.

Perhaps. Things are moving slowly in the age of COVID and the results of the investigation will presumably take a bit longer to be released.
If his name is being withheld you can count on any addition information being withheld as well. Not that it really matters.

Names and details are usually withheld until the family is notified. It is also considered polite not to talk about the people involved because the victims family might be reading about it on here.

The newspaper article said the name was being withheld at the request of the family. So they already know.

Not talk about the people involved? You realize where you are right?

We discourage family members from reading these threads as we discuss incidents. Discussion will happen in hopes that other divers can learn.
