Well I fianlly did it. I was using a high end oral inflation snorkel vest under my soft backpack/harness. Though it worked fine I was finding that it was a wee bit of a pita when I had to manipulate a reel with a dive flag and inflate at the same time - especially when I'm in neoprene.
SSssooooo - I bit the bullet and bought a Mares 10/22 Donut Bladder (single tank). I had a $50 gift certificate to my LDS so it helped with the cost.
Wow. Really high quality, small (ish) and will make my diving so much easier. Unscrewing 2 bolts and removing the tank straps will allow me to pack everything seperately in only a wee bit more space than with the snorkel vest. Once I get to my dive destination it will only take a few minuets to assemble. Then I'm done. Much better than putting the vest on and getting it situated under the harness on every dive.
I've really got to get over this "I can do without it & it costs too much" crap. I'm 71. Time to splurge a little and make the livin' easy.
