Hi all,

I'm fairly new to diving, I got my padi certification this past Summer, and I've made 7 Dives so far (Not including Course Dives). In total, about 5 hours underwater. So far, I have been diving in Georgian Bay, and I've been on:

- Jane McLeod
- S.S. Atlantic
- The Seattle
- The Ella Ross

I love diving, and seeing shipwrecks, but I'd like to see some that are a little more intact. Where can I dive in Ontario to see some more intact ships? I may be doing the Advanced Open Water course this summer, but likely I will wait till next summer, when my skills have solidified some more; I'm not in any great hurry.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the board!

My first suggestion to you would be if possible is to join a local dive club if you haven't already it will give you more chances to dive. Now in terms of places to dive and more intact shipwrecks places like Kingston, Brockville and Tobermory are all excellent choices. They have some really nice freighters ( That are made of steel so they're still pretty stable and lots to see). Although they are in depths of 60-100' which would be perfect if your getting you AOW. Some of my favorite wrecks include the Wolfe Islander, Aloha& Effie May, Keystorm, and the Niagra 2 all of these are fantastic wrecks!

Just remeber to always dive within your experience and comfort range and don't forget to have fun!

Cheers Alex

Yeah, Kingston would be nice... Too bad it's 5 hours from here... :) Damn I hate living in the middle of Nowhere. Still, I do at least have easy access to Georgian Bay, so I guess Tobermory is my best bet.

Can anyone reccomend some good dive sites near Tobermory that are fairly intact?

Just as a note, there isn't really a dive club in my area, at least not an organzied one. Trying to get it organized again, but we'll see.

Do yourself a favor and pick up Chris Kohl's book The Great Lakes Diving Guide. It will help you find what you're looking for.

FWIW, I drove 7 1/2 hours to Kingston last September for three days of diving and it was worth every minute of the drive. I dove with Northern Tech Divers and they're a great bunch to dive with. And their prices are great.

Also, check out www.tobermory.com I haven't dove with them but my instructors have and highly recommend them.

If you're willing to drive a bit you will find incredibly intact wrecks in the Great Lakes. I was on all five lakes last year and they all have quite a bit to offer. Good luck.

Tobermory has some awsome dive sites. The Sweepstakes is in shallow water, your head would be above water if you were standing on deck, and the wreck is still basically intact. We dove with G&S Watersports. There were only 2 of us to start with (ended up as threesome) but they took the big boat, the Joseph Simon. The platform on the back raises and lowers and I believe the boat will accomodate 24 divers. Chris Kohl has written some very good books about Ontario diving as well as Great Lakes diving. You should check them out.

I can't wait to get back to Toby!

I was by Collingwood, Canada (Blue Mountain) for NYE/Snowboarding/xcountry skiing/ skiing and I saw a dive shop. On our way by I started to slow down but my friend made me keep driving... I love finding a dive shop by a skiing mountain!!!

Checked Amazon.ca & Chapters.ca for the book 'The Great Lakes Diving Guide' Amazon says they want $172 for it... ack!Thats worse than some of my programming books... And Chapters is 'out of stock'. Anyone with a better source?
