Heres a question for ya - who has the fastest boat(s)? The one thing i've noticed in the past couple of years is that that speed seems to be a big selling feature in some sothern parts - east coast of the states and florida for example. And it is certainly a treat to get to the site in short order no matter how far it is. I don't take a lot of charters here but if i do, i'd love to know this one bit of info.

I like my surface intervals so speed does not matter to me and I tend to avoid the boats where I feel rushed.

Agreed, the rush is not welcome at any time, but there is no reason to turn what could be a morning or afternoon dive into an all day dive because boats aren't fast enough. Time is more valuable than that. Also, some of my least favourite dives have been sucking on diesel exhaust for the duration of the treck to the dive site and feeling like crap when i get there - that certainly could have been eased if the trip was faster. I just think that the fast charter operators should be known for that fact as well - that would be a huge selling point for me. The reason i ask is that i have a potentially large group coming up in august that wont fit in my boat and one of the joys of where they're coming from is their fast boats. I don't want to waste time up here on slower ones.

Can't say for a 100% but depending on the size of your LARGE group and where you might want to dive, your choices might be narrowed down to the fastest of the bigger boats. In Brockville I think it might be the Osprey out of Above N Below and in Kingston it might be the new boat that U&I Scuba has (book through Northern Tech Diver). For the Eastcliff (Cornwall area) you really are limited to someone like Depth Charge Diving.

There are faster boats but they are usually eight people or less.

That is usually because they are burning furnace oil instead of Diesel fuel (cost)
