I'll be in Singapore for work in April, and my diving companion and I have 8-9 days afterwards to explore/dive somewhere in the region before we fly home. We probably only have time for one destination with that short amount of time, and we have looked at Bali vs Philippines but we are open to anything with direct flights east of Singapore... We are open to shore diving, boat diving, or a short liveaboard trip. We would like to split time between diving and exploring on land (nature and culture). Budget is mid-range. We are happy to rent a car, hop on a ferry, or take a short local flight if necessary. If you could go to one or two destinations in SE Asia, where would you go? Thanks!

From Singapore.
1. Bali, very touristy. Driving there would be a nightmare because of the amount of traffic.
2. East coast of Penisular Malaysia. Tioman Island is literally on the door step from Singapore. Tenggol is slightly up north.
3. LoB to Similan and the tropical rain forest at Khao Sok in Thailand.
4. Manado, flight is NOT daily. Bunaken for wall dive or Lembeh for macro. If you like to explore the local attraction then stay on the mainland opposite Bunaken island.
5. Malapascua in Philippines. Easter is on 18th Apr so flight will be in big demand around that time. This is a tiny island with nothing to explore above water.

What would I do personally?
I have a trip to Southern Leyte in Philippines next week. A week after returning home, off to Koh Lanta and Koh Lipe. Eventually, catch the flight home from Penang but will stop over for couple of days in Langkawi.

I would had suggested Toraja in Sulawei for land exploration but it is just too far from Manado. The culture is unique and I was lucky enough to have witness a funeral ceremony.
