I got certified a little over a year ago, and I'm a full blown addict. It has become my [-]hobby[/-] obsession. But the wife doesn't dive. All of you in similar situations know where I'm going with this...

About 7 years ago, during our honeymoon, we did one of those resort dives. She got down about 10 feet and got scared. I think it was too much, too fast. I mean, we were in the middle of the ocean, in about 75 feet of water...she got a bit overwhelmed. Ever since then, she wouldn't even entertain the idea of trying it again.

Until now. After much suggestive selling by your's truly, she's decided to try a Discover Scuba class at our LDS!

I'm so friggin' excitied! I hate going on scuba weekends/trips without her, and truly would LOVE it if she took it up. I think that if she had the opportunity to do some pool work and get comfortable, maybe she'd consider getting her OW. I know that once she got the hang of it, she'd totally fall in love.

Unfortunately she's a major shop-a-holic. So if she does fall in love, I'm in big trouble.

Oh well, it will be worth it. :D

Good luck Jason. I hope it work.

I spent a lot of time getting my wife used to snorkling in shallow water before she was ready to get certified. She has been certified for 4 years now, and its great.

I'm one of the fortunate ones who has a significant other that loves diving. And, it is great to dive with her.

However, if you find that she really doesn't dig it, please don't push her. That's the way uncomfortable divers are created. Having her has a life partner is far more important than as a dive buddy!

Trust me. I worship the ground she walks on. I wouldn't dream of pushing her into something she doesn't want to do.

Besides, if I tried to push her, she'd turn around and whup my butt.

Be careful what you wish for. Look what happened to my husband :D

Cool! Sorry if I sounded like I was preaching!

Hope she loves it!

Good Luck with that!

I recently got involved with diving with my Fiancee. It was really her idea to SCUBA dive (which we'lll do on our honeymoon) because she loved snorkelling so much and has a friend at work who dives.

It is absolutely fantastic to share this hobby (becoming an obsession) with the one you love. And she can be assured that her dive buddy will never let her down. I'm very lucky because we have many activities that we enjoy together, such as my motorcycle, bicycling, skating, and other obsessions which this may not be the right forum for....:D

Good-Luck Jason.
My wife and I are taking our classes together starting in early December. Our daughter who is a divemaster introduced us in the backyard pool.
My wife loved it, immediately wanted to start the classes.

Now, i'm terribly excited she's a little aprehensive.
Hope we find something we can truly enjoy together.

My wife dives as well... but will not dive locally due to the low vis. I keep trying to get her interested, but she is more the "Caribbean" diver... She likes diving, but is not addicted, she could take or leave it..

Good luck!

Great to hear Budd. I'm sure with some easy going baby steps, she can grow to love it but i'm sure you'll see this if she's comfortable.

Don't forget, if she IS a shopaholic, make sure she buys dive gear that you can benefit from too!!:D
