Hi guys,

On average how long did it take to get your certification? I realize that many can be issued anywhere between three days and a week, but that's spending everynight in the classroom and pool for hours. For those of you who had your classes spread out, how long did it take you? I'm trying to schedule a family vacation to the British Virgin Islands for this summer and I'd like to be able to do some diving then. I'm planning on starting my course in May, and our trip is planned for late July/Early August. Thanks in advace for your help. You guys are great...:D

Can be done easily over a series of 4 day no problem. Explain the instructure what you're looking to get done.

Agree with RJP...No problems getting it done in 4 days. We have weekday and weekend. If you do the weekend then you are done and certified in 2 weekends

I agree with the guys above, it can be safely done in a couple weekends, if both yourself and your intructor are on the ball. Now to add another tidbit into the mix, my training was in 1993, so I'm a lil fuzzy on specifics, but if memory serves me, we did 1 or 2 hours of class followed by 1 or 2 hours of pool, once a week for 8 weeks, then my 4 checkout dives.

i dont believe OP... i dont really think it will be his 'last' question :D

1 theory night and 2 weekends for me

cheers

OW was done over 13 weeks plus 3 or 5 weekends for the 5 check out dives after the 13 week class. "back in the day, they made us spend......and we luv'd it":D

every wednesday evening of pool and classroom study for 13 wednesdays. It was intensely comprehensive to say the least! I believe it was like 1 hour class and 1 hour pool, like others posted.

only cost like $20 back in 1987 through the Chicago Park District.

How much did you all pay for your OW certification:D

yeah, I splurged and payed the $300+ for the AOW over a 4 day period, which included the self study, self quiz's, and check out dives.

u all are some bloody robbers, i tell ya:D

yeah, we was poor folk.....no exotic clear warm water carribean trip for us. we did dives in june in a thermocline ridden quarry up in wisconsin. low viz, but i found a cool fossil, and as i raced in closser, some newb kiked up sediment and blinded the viz completely:D neve found the fossil again, and I have been mentally scarred since:D

I did part 1 over two days at the end of February and completed part 2 over two days the following June. Open water is pretty hard here in February and March and pretty cold in April and May for beginning divers.

dont be stirring up drama, ben
