The other day I went into my LDS and the 17year-old kind that likes to life my tanks by the manifold is all smiles telling that my hp doubles are "right at 3400psi." For a $20 NITROX fill I'm supposed to be thrilled that the tanks are right on at room temp? Great - you didn't give me a short fill.......

I would prefer my tanks filled to 3600psi (and then they cool to 3400 in the water), I'll take 3400psi, but man don't act like you are doing me some big favor.

Many LDS's don't have the equipment fo go much beyond 3450 psi....

Have some cheese? :)

I love my low pressure doubles... 3400 psi will do just fine, thank you :)

You don't even want to know what these guys fill LP tanks to :)

This 'lift at center of manifold' happens to me all the time too. Now I just hoist the doubles where they need to go for the fill to avoid that conversation. I also watch to ensure a slow fill, to let them cool a bit, then to have them top it off so when it cools completely I will have my 3000psi fill (alum 80's).

Some shops are good but I always watch to make sure having received too many short fills. Very frustrating to turn the valve to find a short ;)

Equally annoying is when they assume my 130s are 104s and fill them to 2640 hot which cools to 2400 in the water. That's especially annoying when I bring the tanks to them with 1900 psi and then pay them $10 for 70 cft of air.

I once used a LP steel 120. That was the single heaviest tank I have ever seen. I'm sure there are a few heavier but this thing was a bear. I was using a BC at the time and the strap could barely get around it. It weighed a level ton. I could not imagine someone use double LP steel 120's.

I dive with double 130s (basically the same as 104s) which are the same diameter as LP120s, though a bit shorter and am able to manage ok. LP120s are indeed an enormous tank, but not completely unweildy. I'm 6' & 150 lbs, so I'm no weight lifter, either .

:)

To be fair, the majority of my dives are on double LP80's. They're *easy* :)

I also own LP104's and they're not bad, but you do notice them.

I'm 6'4" and 240 lbs ... YMMV.
