Well folks it's happened
On Monday Olympus has stopped servicing one of the best cameras they ever made. I had sent mine in for repair last Friday and they still quoted a flat 185.00 rate. However today I was told today by 3 supervisors they stopped service on Monday.
You may be able to guess my thoughts on this matter :dork2:

So if you need a 5050 serviced Olympus is no longer and option.

Also poor customer service to discontinue service to a camera still sold only 6 years ago IMO. Worse yet I'm thinking even if you can find someone to work on them a lack of parts will spell the beginning of the end for a true classic.

VERY SAD INDEED

kinda scares me who owns a sp-350....

Most likely it is spare parts that are the issue. The last production run must have been about 9 years ago so any spares must be nearly out of stock or will be near the end of their shelf life.
To do a new run would be prohibitive so they have little choice but to stop.
It could be something as simple as a custom screw, or as big as the sensor, once they get down to a critical level they stop maintenance.

Sad indeed. I guess Olympus would rather sell you a new camera and fix an older C5050.

Problem is they don't "make another camera'....sure they have other models but they don't compair to the 5050, at least not when you compair the entire package, feature for feature.

I could not agree more Herman, this camera is a true classic.
I don't know what others who shoot 5050 are going to do but I picked up another camera off ebay yesterday. I now have 3 cameras and hope they will last the rest of my time diving. I have no urge to upgrade do to the cost.

I also agree. Olympus has made many newer models of cameras, but no point/shoot model to date is a real replacement for the C5050.

I guess I should be shopping for a backup myself.
