Hi all.

A friend of mine will be in Okinawa for a few weeks in December and I am mulling over the idea of flying there to join him for a spot of diving around the main island as well as Yonaguni. I understand it's err cold, windy and miserable (I'm from Malaysia where the weather is a different kind of miserable), but my main concern is whether there is a history of weather conditions often being too adverse for diving. It's quite a bit of flying, planning and paying, and I'm not much of a gambler...

Typhoon season is June. My first trip ever to Okinawa was in December and I had a blast. Still warm enough for a T-shirt on land (barely) and I dived a 5mm but I remember being a bit cold (21-23C). Like always it depends on wind strength and wind direction on where we could actually dive.
If you’re prone to cold a 7mm or semi dry might best best.
